You're reading: Transnistria complains about Ukraine, Moldova hindering its cargo transit

Transnistria is ready to form a republican body for product certification and to restore air and river traffic to Moscow but Ukraine and Moldova are creating impediments, unrecognized Republic President Yevgeny Shevchuk said.

“We are ready to form a body which will certify [our problems], but the problem is that Transnistria has two borders, with Ukraine and Moldova. Ukraine is not letting our cargo pass across its territory although a set of international commitments binds countries to allow transit cargo through,” he told reporters in Moscow at the opening of an exhibition at the Russian Armed Forces’ Central Museum on Wednesday, Oct. 1.

“We are ready to restore air and river traffic to Moscow,” he added.

So far, river and air routes are practically paralyzed, Shevchuk said.

Moldova is setting political conditions for reopening air and other traffic and food supply, and these conditions are unacceptable for Transnistria, the president added.
