The Ukrainian government will provide state guarantees so that Dnipropetrovsk can raise a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to build a subway network, according to Vice Premier and Infrastructure Minister Borys Kolesnikov.

"There has been an order of the president. The task is absolutely clear. The state needs to give guarantees. The decision is to be made by the cabinet of ministers collectively, but I’m 99% sure that state guarantees for the construction of the Dnipropetrovsk subway will be provided," he said on Sept.12 during the signing of an agreement on cooperation between the Infrastructure Ministry and Dnipropetrovsk regional administration.

Dnipropetrovsk Mayor Ivan Kulichenko said that the loan would amount around euro 260 million.

As reported, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych set the task of finishing three subway stations in Dnipropetrovsk by 2015 – Teatralna, Muzeina and Tsentralna – and joining other parts of the city with the Southern Railway Station with the help of the subway by 2015.

During his visit in Dnipropetrovsk in Oct. 2010, Yanukovych promised that in 2011 some Hr. 250 million would be allocated from the national budget to build the subway in Dnipropetrovsk. Today constructors have obtained Hr 50 million.
