ISTANBUL - Turkcell Technology, a subsidiary of Turkey's biggest telecom operator, Turkcell, plans to sell its own smartphones on the Ukrainian market, the CEO of Turkcell Technology, Semih Incedayi, told journalists in Istanbul.

“500,000 handsets have been sold already in Turkey [in two years]. We will start sales in Ukraine and Belarus very soon,” he said.

Incedayi added that the start of smartphone sales is possible only thanks to the presence of 3G networks in the countries.

He added that potential buyers of Turkcell handsets include consumers who may not be able to afford more expensive iPhone, Samsung and other brands of smartphones.

Only one company, LLC TriMob, a subsidiary of Ukrtelecom, holds a 3G license in Ukraine. The allocation of 3G licenses to other providers has been delayed.

Turkcell started selling its own brand of smartphones in November 2010. The company currently offers five different models on the Turkish market. These handsets were developed in Turkey and produced in China.
