You're reading: Ukraine, Belarus discuss cooperation as part of Customs Union and WTO

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and Belarusian First Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Semashko have discussed cooperation between the two countries as part of the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan and the World Trade Organization (WTO), the media liaisons office of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers has reported.

"The sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation as part of the Customs Union and the World Trade Organization, as well as opportunities for cooperation in the format of integration associations," the office said, citing the results of a meeting between Azarov and Semashko in Kyiv on Thursday.

In addition, the parties agreed to strengthen economic and trade cooperation, and Azarov supported a decision to increase bilateral trade from $6 billion to $8 billion taken at a meeting of the Belarusian-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.

The Ukrainian prime minister also promised to support Belarus in the international arena.

"We will certainly support you where we can," Azarov said.
