Winter grain crops in Ukraine as of October 26, 2012 had been sown on 7.9 million hectares, or 97% of the target, Ukraine's Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry has said.

The ministry said that winter wheat was sown on 6.6 million hectares,
which was 99% of the forecast, rye on 303,000 hectares (99%), and
winter barley on one million hectares (86%).

As of October 25, 2012 winter grain crops had sprouted on 6.4 million
hectares (82% of fields), including 5.8 million hectares in a good and
satisfactory state (90.3% of fields) and 0.6 million hectares with weak
sprouts (9.7%). Crops have not sprouted on 1.4 million hectares.

As reported, according to the ministry, Ukraine in the 2013 harvest
will sow winter grain crops on 8.1 million hectares, which will be 3.6%
down on 2012. However, Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola
Prysiazhniuk recently forecast an increase in the areas sown with winter
grain crops in 2012 to 8.5 million hectares.
