You're reading: Ukraine cuts coal production by 3% in seven months

Ukraine reduced coal production tentatively 3.1% year-on-year in January-July 2014 to 46.323 million tonnes, the Energy and Coal Ministry has told Interfax-Ukraine.

This included 12.435 million tonnes of coking coal, down 9.6%, and 33.888 million tonnes of steam coal, down 0.5%.

State-run coal mines raised output 5.3% to 14.025 million tonnes, including 3.654 million tonnes of coking coal, down 3.8%, and 10.371 million tonnes of steam coal, up 8.9%.

Mines in Donetsk region produced 20.184 million tonnes and in Luhansk region produced 13.9 million tonnes of coal in the seven months. Dnipropetrovsk region mined 11.013 million tonnes and Lviv region turned out 1.022 million tonnes of coal.

Coal production in Ukraine as a whole plummeted 21.6% year-on-year in July to 5.584 million tonnes due to the military operation in southeast Ukraine. Coking coal production fell 36.7% to 1.183 million tonnes and steam coal production was down 16.2% to 4.401 million tonnes.
