Ukrainian confectionery manufacturers reduced exports to the Russian Federation by 67 percent in 2014, to $159.7 million.

“The traditional foreign market for the sale of domestic sweets was Russia. About 45 percent of Ukrainian confectionery goods were exports there every year. After Russia had imposed a ban on the import of Ukrainian confectionery products in September 2014, our exports there fell by 67 percent compared to 2013,” Ukrkondprom association president Oleksandr Baldyniuk told Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, in natural terms Ukraine reduced exports to Russia by 2.8 times, to 61,800 tonnes.

The expert added that Ukrainian producers are actively entering Arab markets. Last year the supply of products to Iraq tripled.

“The markets of the Middle East are promising for Ukrainian products. We see the opportunity to minimize domestic producers’ losses caused by the ban on sweets deliveries to Russia through expanding supplies to Arab countries,” the expert said.

In connection with the liberalization of trade between Ukraine and the EU confectionery enterprises in 2014 slightly increased deliveries to Belarus, Poland, Germany, and Estonia.
