You're reading: Ukraine cuts gas transit 19.1% in 2012

Ukraine reduced gas transit to Europe and other CIS countries by 19.1% or by 19.936 billion cubic meters (bcm) year-on-year in 2012, to 84.261 bcm.

The press office of public joint-stock company Ukrtransgaz, a subsidiary of national oil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy, said transit to Western Europe fell by 19.7%, to 81.183 bcm, and transit to the CIS fell 0.7% to 3.078 bcm.

Ukrtransgaz also supplied 48.761 bcm of gas to domestic consumers in 2012, 5.7% or 2.926 bcm less than in 2011.

“Despite a fall in gas transit in 2012 by 19% or 20 bcm, our company expects that its net income will grow by 3% or UAH 483 million compared to the previous year,” reads the report, citing Ukrtransgaz Board Chairman Serhiy Vynokurov.

He said that in 2012, the company managed to see profits, in particular, thanks to saving gas used for industrial needs.

“1.25 bcm of gas was saved in 2012, which is in the prices of Naftogaz Ukrainy is worth over UAH 535 million,” he said.

As reported, Ukrtransgaz operates Ukraine’s system of trunk gas pipelines and underground storage facilities. The throughput capacity of Ukraine’s gas transport system is 288 bcm at input and 178.5 bcm at output, including 142.5 bcm to Europe and 3.5 bcm to Moldova.
