Ukraine and the European Commission decided during the latest round of talks to increase Ukrainian grain export quotas from 20,000 tonnes to two million tonnes when the agreements on the free trade area between Ukraine and the EU are signed, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said during a meeting with senators of the Spanish parliament on Monday.

"I’m very pleased that during the last round of talks the European Commission offered a compromise concerning the export of two million tonnes of grain," the Ukrainian premier said.

Azarov noted that the European Commission earlier offered Ukraine to sign an agreement on a free trade area based on an export quota of 20,000 tonnes of grain, the government’s press service reported.

However, the prime minister stressed that Ukraine’s export potential this year is around 20 million tonnes of grain.
