Ukraine is finishing early crops harvesting, threshing crops on 94% of fields as of August 8, 2011, and started late groats crops, the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry has reported.

According to the report, early grain and bean crops have been harvested from 10.6 million hectares and 32.2 million tonnes of grain has been threshed.

The average yield for the crops in the country is 30.4 centners per hectare against last year’s 24.7 centners per hectare.

Farmers from steppe, forest-steppe regions finished harvesting early crops (90% of fields) and farmers from marshy woodlands harvested crops from 78% of fields.

As of August 8, 2011, farmers harvested 21.8 million tonnes of wheat from 6.4 million hectares (95% of the target). The yield came to 34.2 centners per hectare against 28.3 centners per hectare seen last year.

A total of 9.1 million tonnes of barley was harvested from 3.6 million hectares (96% of the target). Its average yield totaled 25.5 centners per hectare against 21.1 centners per hectare last year.

In addition, 1.3 million tonnes of rapeseeds from 0.77 million hectares (90% of the target) was harvested. The yield is 17.3 centners per hectare against 16.9 centners per hectare.

A total of 0.6 million tonnes of rye was harvested from 0.25 million hectares (87% of the target).

As for late crops, buckwheat was harvested from 2,700 hectares, and first 3,100 tonnes of buckwheat was threshed with the yield of 11.2 centners per hectare.

Ukraine’s agriculture ministry forecasts the growth of the grain harvest this year at 47.4 million tonnes, compared to the 39.3 million tonnes harvested in 2010.
