Ukraine as of Oct. 22 had threshed 39.71 million tonnes of grain from 13.41 million hectares, or 91% of the area to be harvested in the country, the press service of the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry has reported.
According to the ministry, the average yield of grain crops in the country was 29.6 centners (a metric centner equals 100 kilograms, or 220.46 pounds) per hectare, while on the same date last year it was 34.2 centners per hectare.
In addition, farmers threshed 13.44 million tonnes of corn from 3.13 million hectares, or 71% of the target. The average yield of that crop was 43 centners per hectare, whereas on the same date last year it was 56.7 centners per hectare.
As of October 22, farmers had threshed 157,000 tonnes of rice from 24,000 hectares (92% of the area). The average yield of the crop is 65.9 centners per hectare.
Farmers also harvested 7.65 million tonnes of sunflower seeds from 4.68 million hectares (97% of the area), with the average yield being 16.4 centners per hectare (18.6 centners in 2011), and 1.94 million tonnes of soybeans from 1.2 million hectares (82% of the area), with its average yield being 16.2 centners per hectare, compared to 20.3 centners per hectare last year.
Sugar beets have been harvested from 311,000 hectares, or 68% of the area. Farmers harvested 11.4 million tonnes of sugar beet, with the average yield being 366 centners per hectare, against 350 centners per hectare last year.
