Chornomornaftogaz has commenced commercial production at the Odesa natural gas field on the Black Sea shelf.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych gave the command to launch from
Ukrtransgaz’s main control room in Kyiv, an Interfax-Ukraine
correspondent reported.

Following the Odesa field’s launch, a new gas field in Poltava region
was brought online, which has around 8 billion cubic meters (bcm) of
gas reserves and planned production of 320-350 million cu m a year.

Representatives of Ukraine’s national oil and gas company Naftogaz
Ukrainy said that these projects were implemented as part of a strategy
to boost own production, reduce imports of energy resources and ensure
Ukraine’s energy independence.
