Donetsk, Oct. 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukraine and Russia will soon announce the results of talks on the revision of gas contracts, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"We’ll announce this in the near future… As partners, we will always fulfill our bilateral agreements," he said at a joint press conference with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Donetsk on Tuesday.

Yanukovych said that the amount of work done in recent years was aimed at creating traditional conditions "that have always existed between our countries" and that would meet the national interests of both countries.

"We have come very close to this issue. I want to hope that we’ll dot the i’s and cross the t’s very soon," he said.

Yanukovych said that the purpose of the negotiations was "to reach a level of cooperation that will have prospects."

He said that cooperation between Ukraine and Russia in the gas sector should not cause concern among their European partners that gas supplies to Europe could be disrupted.

"Both sides have repeatedly answered this question. There is absolutely no concern here, and it cannot be here, as we have consistently paid and will pay for gas, and we are steadily pumping and will continue to pump it to Europe. I think that we’ll announce all the rest – how we will build these relations – in the very near future," he said.
