Ukraine has sown 260,000 hectares with winter crops for seed, which is 3% of the target, according to the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine.

This figure is higher than on the same date last year, by which Ukraine had sown 229,000 hectares with winter crops for seed, the ministry said.

In particular, agribusinesses have sown 213,000 hectares with wheat, which is 3% of the target, 41,000 hectares with rye, which is 12% of the target, and 4,000 hectares with barley, which is 0.4% of the target.

Winter rapeseed crops have been sown on 731,000 hectares, which is 77% of the target.

As reported, the ministry forecasts that this year 9.2 million hectares will be sown with winter crops, including 8.3 million hectares with winter grain crops, which will be 200,000 hectares more than in 2010.

Ukraine in 2010 sowed almost 9.3 million hectares with winter crops for seed and green fodder, which was 9.1% down on 2009. Areas under winter grain crops shrank by 5.5%, to 8.088 million hectares.
