Ukraine as of July 18, 2011, had threshed 15.6 million tonnes of early grain and leguminous crops from 5.5 million hectares, which is 48% of the area under crops, according to the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.

As the ministry reported on Monday, the average crop yield of early grain and leguminous crops in Ukraine is 28.7 centners per hectare against 24.3 centners per hectare (one metric centner equals 100 kilograms or about 220 pounds).

Farmers harvested 4.7 million tonnes of barley from 1.8 million hectares (50% of the target). The average crop yield of this crop is 25.2 centners per hectare against 21.9 centners per hectare last year. The harvest of wheat was 10.6 million tonnes from 3.4 million hectares (50% of the target) with the crop yield begin 31.4 centners per hectare, whereas last year it was 26.9 centners per hectare.

Agribusinesses harvested 820,000 tonnes of rapeseeds from 500,000 hectares (61% of the target). The crop yield of this crop is 15.3 centners per hectare (16 centners per hectare last year).

Ukraine plans to harvest 45 million tonnes of grain this year, compared to 39.3 million tonnes in 2010.
