Ukraine as of Aug. 27 had threshed 25.48 million tons of grain from 9.9 million hectares, or 66% of the areas to be harvested in the country, the press service of the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry reported on Monday.
According to the ministry, the average yield of grain crops in the country was 25.7 centners per ha, while on the same date last year it was 30.4 centners per ha.
In addition, farmers threshed 42,000 tons of corn from 15,000 hectares, with the target being 4.57 million hectares. The average yield of that crop was 27.8 centners per ha, whereas on the same date last year it was 40 centners per ha.
Ukraine also harvested 70,000 tons of buckwheat from 70,000 hectares (25% of the planned areas), with its average yield being 10 centners per ha against last year's 11.5 centners per ha.
According to the ministry, farmers threshed 86,000 tons of millet from 72,000 hectares (42% of the areas), with its average yield being 12 centners per ha (18.8 centners per ha in 2011).
Farmers also harvested 243,000 tonnes of sunflower seeds from 232,000 hectares (5% of the areas), with the average yield being 10.5 centners per ha, and 47,000 tons of soybeans from 33,000 hectares (2% of the areas), with its average yield being 14.1 centners per ha.
