Ukraine's total state (direct) and guaranteed debt in February 2012 decreased by 0.45%, or by $268.021 million, to $59.211 billion, the Finance Ministry reported on its Web site on March 26.

According to the published data, the direct state debt in February increased by 0.53%, or by $236.8 million, to $45.116 billion, and in particular the internal debt was up by 0.92%, or by $186 million, to $20.447 billion.

The decrease in the state debt in February was due to a large payment by the National Bank of Ukraine to the International Monetary Fund. As a result, the guaranteed debt over the past month dropped by 3.46%, or $504.8 million, to $14.095 billion, and in particular the foreign debt dropped by 3.8%, or by $497.5 million, to $12.578 billion.

Since the beginning of the year, the total state debt has not changed: the guaranteed debt repayment compensated for the $400 million increase in the direct debt. The share of the domestic debt increased from 36.6% to 37.1%.
