You're reading: Ukrainian government to cover Naftogaz costs of gas supplies to Donbas

The Ukrainian government is drafting a bill aimed at compensating Naftogaz Ukrainy, the national energy company, for the expenses it incurred in supplying natural gas to the militant-controlled areas in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, Ukrainian Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Prodan told reporters on Nov. 5.

“A relevant bill is now in the making to allow compensating Naftogaz for the cost of gas supplies, at the expense of those budget earmarks for benefits and subsidies which should be used for funding those territories,” he said.

Prodan recalled that the government is not going to turn off gas and electricity on the militant-controlled territories, even though it has received no payments from there.
