You're reading: Ukrainian Steel Construction Association created in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Steel Construction Association (UkrSCA), the founders of which are Metinvest Group, leading rolled steel distributors, producers of fencing steel structures and some design organizations, was registered in June 2013.

According to a press release of Metinvest, the association included 12 companies during the first phase, including producers of roof and façade systems, industrial design and research institutes, and construction and structure assembly companies. The association has the status of an all-Ukrainian public organization with an office in Kyiv.

The press release says that the mission of the association is to make steel structures the preferred material for construction. Traditionally, the construction sector has been the largest consumer of steel in Ukraine. At the same time, the share of steel frames in nonresidential high-rise buildings is around 25 percent (compared to 55 percent  in the United States, 70 percent  in Britain, while the share of one-floor buildings is 90 percent ). Only 1 percent  of residential buildings in Ukraine are made of steel.

UkrSCA is targeting to increase the share of steel structures in commercial buildings to 50 percent  and in residential buildings to 10 percent . According to the estimates of the association, this will allow creating an additional steel sales market for the producers of bearing and fencing steel structures in the volume of one million tonnes by 2020.

The participants of the organization intend to use the best international practices and technologies and to facilitate the creation of an advanced regulatory base for the steel construction. The association will offer technical support and provide consulting services to the construction market players to help finding the most effective structural solutions which will use steel. This will allow accelerating the construction projects that use steel compared to those that use other technologies, and this will allow achieving the faster payback periods for developers.

Among founders of the association is public joint-stock company Avdiyivsky Metal Construction Details Plant, private joint-stock company Ukrstalkonstruktsiya, Shimanovsky Ukrainian Research and Design Institute of Steel Construction LLC, Metinvest Holding LLC, Ruukki Ukraine and others.
