You're reading: Ukrenergo to auction 4,050 megawatts of electricity to export in March

National energy company Ukrenergo has announced an auction on February 12, 2013 for access to the Ukrainian power grid to export electricity from March 1 to March 31, 2013, according to an announcement posted on the company's Web site.

The report says that access to 4,050 megawatts (MW) of electricity for export to four directions is divided into 20 unequal lots.

The first additional 150 MW of power for export to Slovakia, Hungary and Romania, which Ukrenergo contracted recently, will be put up for sale.

Four lots with a total capacity of 400 MW of electricity for export to Belarus are being put up for sale. Five lots with a total capacity of 350 MW of electricity for export to Moldova are being auctioned. From March 8 to March 31, 2013 access to the power grid in this direction will be closed.

Access to 3,150 megawatts of electricity for export to Russia is divided into 10 unequal lots.

At an auction for access to the Ukrainian power grid to export electricity from January 1 to December 31, 2012, held on November 21, 2012, DTEK – Ukraine’s largest vertically integrated energy holding – bought all lots at the initial price due to absence of other bidders.

Bids can be submitted no later than 1600 on February 11, 2013. The auction will be held at 1600 on February 12, 2013.

Ukrenergo operates Ukraine’s backbone and interstate transmission lines, as well as supervising the country’s national grid. It is a state-owned company and is controlled by the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry.
