You're reading: Ukrtransgaz’s loss from gas pipeline blast in June exceeds Hr 31 million

PJSC Ukrtransgaz has spent Hr 31.345 million on the elimination of the consequences of a blast in the Urengoi-Pomary-Uzhgorod gas pipeline in June.

As the company reported in its quarterly report on Oct. 27, the explosion was caused by unauthorized intrusion by unidentified persons whose identity hasn’t been discovered.

What is more, because hostilities in Donetsk and Luhansk regions made Ukrtransgaz has partially lost control over assets located there, including due to their destruction. The value of these assets as of Sept. 30, 2013, was estimated at Hr 40 million.

As reported, there was an explosion in the Urengoi-Pomary-Uzhgorod gas pipeline in the Lokhvytsia district of Poltava region on June 17, 2014. The losses of gas amounted to 10 million cubic meters. However, gas transit wasn’t interrupted due to the use of reserve pipelines.

The repairs to the damaged section of the gas pipeline were completed early in July.

Ukrtransgaz, which is 100 percent owned by Naftogaz Ukrainy, operates a system of trunk pipelines and 12 underground storage facilities in Ukraine.

The capacity of Ukraine’s gas transport system is 288 billion cubic meters at the entrance and 178.5 billion cubic meters at the exit, of which 142.5 billion cubic meters goes to European countries and 3.5 billion cubic meters goes to Moldova.
