State Railways Administration Ukrzaliznytsia has called on passengers to buy tickets to Crimea in advance, Ukrzaliznytsia Director General Volodymyr Kozak said at a briefing after a government meeting on Wednesday.

The railways in June and the first half of July transported 1.506 million passengers to Crimea, which is 3.5% up from 2011.

“Passenger transportation by rail in summer 2012 is provided by 300 pairs of passenger trains, including 101 pairs to Crimea, 24 of which are year-round, 71 are additional summer trains and six once-only trains,” he said.

According to Kozak, 677 passenger carriages run to Crimea year-round, and 766 additional wagons run only in summer. The railways repaired 35 passenger locomotives for Hr 190 million, 528 passengers cars for Hr 128.5 million and 44 sections of electric trains for Hr 101 million.
