You're reading: Ukrzaliznytsia preparing 4,239 passenger cars for winter

State Railways Administration Ukrzaliznytsia is preparing 4,239 wagons on passenger trains for winter, more than 3,053 of which operate on combined heating and 1,186 on coal.

According to the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia, 3,522 cars have been prepared, 2,812 of which work on combined heating.

“Each car undergoes the necessary repairs, it is washed, painted, and
tested. The railways audit the state of its heating systems, toilets,
etc. At present coal stocks for heating in passenger cars in the
warehouses of Ukrainian railways exceed two-months reserves and amount
to about 18,000 tonnes,” reads a statement.

Ukrzaliznytsia noted that the heating period in passenger trains
started from October 1, 2012 and ends on April 25, 2013. The air
temperature in cars running on long distances in the autumn and winter
period is kept in the range of 18 to 22 degrees.
