You're reading: Vehicle production in Ukraine down almost 15% in four months

Ukrainian automobile manufacturers in January-April 2012 tentatively produced 26,170 cars and buses, a 14.8% fall year-over-year, reads a report of the Ukrautoprom association.

The report says that passenger car output, the share of which of total production exceeds 90%, fell by 16.9% in four months ending 2012, to 24,071.

Bus and trolleybus production fell by 0.7%, to 807.

Truck and commercial vehicle output showed an upward trend in January-April 2012: it grew by 36.9% over the period, to 1,292.

The association said that in April alone, Ukraine produced 7,006 vehicles, which was 10.5% down on March 2012, and 11.3% down on April 2011.

Passenger car production in April was down by 9.6% year-over-year, to 6,477 cars, bus output contracted by 25% on April 2011, to 235 buses and a decline of 19% in truck and commercial vehicle output was seen compared to April 2011, to 294 vehicles.

“The share of vehicles made in Ukraine on the domestic market continued falling and in four months ending April 2012 it came to 23%,” the Ukrautoprom said.

The association has not published data on production of vehicles in the first quarter by separate manufacturers, although it was reported that Bogdan Corporation and Eurocar plant, which are among top three largest manufacturers, saw a fall over the period.

Ukrautoprom also said that in April some 33,619 vehicles were registered in road police departments, which was 18% up on April 2011 and 9.5% down on March 2012. Some 21,238 passenger cars were sold in April, which was 21% up on April 2011, 8,736 commercial vehicles (a rise of 39%) and 449 buses (a rise of 34%) were sold.

The share of new vehicles in primary registrations of passenger cars came to 98%, in the segment of commercial vehicles it was 22% and in the bus segment, it was 61%.

As reported, in 2011, Ukrainian auto manufacturers increased production by 26% on 2010, to 104,653 vehicles, including a 30% rise in production of passenger cars, to 97,585, a 36% rise in bus output, to 3,738 and a 37% increase in truck and commercial vehicles output, to 3,330.
