The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has asked the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine to launch an inquiry into the breach of anti-trust rules by Gazprom, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has said.

“The Ukrainian government is asking the Antimonopoly Committee to start an antitrust investigation against the Russian company Gazprom, which is acting on discriminatory, virtually non-competitive conditions, which harms the Ukrainian economy,” the government’s press service quoted Yatsenyuk as saying on April 22.

He also said that Kyiv is planning to offer the European Union a joint investigation of Gazprom’s dominant position in the markets of both the EU and Ukraine.

“We will also ask our partners from the European Union to carry out this investigation together and to establish the fact of the Russian company Gazprom’s monopoly not only in the European Union, but also in Ukraine,” Yatseniuk said.

He added that he took such decisions after studying the materials on this matter, which were collected and submitted by Ukraine’s Justice Ministry, Fuel and Energy Ministry, and the Antimonopoly Committee.
