In total 12 people were killed and 16 wounded after a Grad missile launcher firing from separatist-controlled territory hit a passenger bus near a Ukrainian-controlled checkpoint outside the town of Volnovakha in Donetsk Oblast.

Ten people were killed instantly in the bus, Ukrainian officials report, while two wounded civilians died in a hospital later in the day, bringing the casualty number to 12. Ukraine is holding a day of mourning on Jan 15 to commemorate the victims of the tragedy.

Currently 12 people are in hospital in Volnovakha with severe wounds, including one member of Kyiv-2 volunteer battalion and one border guard.

The bus was carrying passengers from the city of Donetsk – a separatist stronghold – to the village of Zlatoustivka. Witnesses said the bus was riddled with shrapnel holes after the attack.

The following dashboard cam video obtained exclusively by the Kyiv Post shows a view of the Ukrainian checkpoint on Jan. 13 as it is hit by Grad rockets. In the first minute of the video you can hear the sound of multiple impacts. At 1 minute 10 seconds the minibus some 20 meters away is hit by shrapnel from an exploding rocket.
