You're reading: At least 1,184 soldiers killed in Russia’s war against Ukraine

While the newly-elected parliament held its first session in Kyiv on Nov. 27, a month after getting elected, thousands of Russian troops remain massed on the country’s border and helping separatists who continue to kill Ukrainians.

Ukraine’s Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak earlier said there are at least 7,500 Russian soldiers in the east.

Ukraine is seeking help in fighting Kremlin-backed separatists from abroad. Lithuania may supply weapons to Ukraine as part of military aid, according to Lithuanian officials. Canada is sending another shipment of non-lethal equipment to Ukraine, the first part of which is scheduled to arrive on Nov. 28.

In the meantime, Ukraine keeps losing its forces in Donbas despite a cease-fire that was announced on Sept. 5. Some 80 Ukrainian servicemen were killed during the last month.

Ukrainian Security Service reported at least 1,132 soldiers were killed since the start of the anti-terrorist operation, Markian Lubkivsky, an adviser to SBU head Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, said in Kyiv on Nov. 26.

The Kyiv Post count is higher and goes with at least 1,184 Ukrainian fighters. Moreover, some 4,317 civilians have been killed and almost 10,000 wounded as of Nov. 21, the United Nations estimated.

The following is the list of those known to be killed through Nov. 7-25:

Nov. 7

Pavlo Kolesnikov, 35, a commander of the second unit of the 79th airborne brigade from Mykolaiv. Kolesnikov, professional serviceman, was deployed to the war zone in August and was the head of the group who has been defending Donetsk airport. Kolesnikov was shot by a sniper. He leaves a wife and 4-year-old son in Mykolaiv.

Nov. 8

Bohdan Zdebskiy, 23, a sniper of the 79th airborne brigade from Lviv Oblast. He used to work at a local plant in Lviv Oblast, then he spent more than 3 months in Kyiv during the EuroMaidan Revolution protests. Later he was deployed to the anti-terrorist zone. He was killed while defending Donetsk airport. Zdebskiy leaves a mother and two sisters in his native village.

Serhiy Baranov-Orel, 30, a soldier of the 79th airborne brigade from Rivne Oblast. He was mobilized to the army in August.Baranov-Orel was one of the defenders of Donetsk airport, who were called cyborgs for their toughness. He was killed during the shelling. He leaves his parents and two children.

Andriy Shapoval, a soldier of the 28th brigade from Odesa Oblast. He was killed in an ambush near Pisky village in Donetsk Oblast.

Yevhen Atyukov, a soldier of the 28th brigade from Odesa Oblast. He was killed in an ambush near Pisky village in Donetsk Oblast.

Nov. 9

Oleksandr Raikhert, 18, a member of the volunteer Praviy Sector Battalion from Kherson. He didn’t tell his parents he volunteered to the war zone. Later his father, a professional serviceman, was deployed to the east too. He supported his son’s decision to fight. Raikhert who had been defending Donetsk airport for a several weeks, came back home only once, in October. It was his last trip. He was mortally wounded near Pisky village in Donetsk Oblast. Raikhert leaves his mother and younger brother in Kherson.

Nov. 10

Oleksandr Bazovskiy, 38, a soldier of the 30 mechanized brigade from Novohrad-Volynskiy. He was mobilized to the army in March. He was severely wounded near Luhutyne village in Luhansk Oblast and died later in a hospital. He leaves a sister in his native city.

Andriy Lomeiko, 37, a soldier of the 37th territorial defense battalion from Zaporizhzhia Oblast. He was mortally wounded during the shelling near Avdiivka city not far from Donetsk airport.

Maksym Senkevych, 25, a lieutenant of the 28th mechanized brigade from Odesa Oblast. Senkevych wanted to work as a history teacher in a local school, but he was mobilized to the army. He was killed when pro-Russian separatists opened fire near Berezove village in Donetsk Oblast. He leaves a wife and a daughter.

Vitaliy Tokar, a soldier of the 28th mechanized brigade from Odesa Oblast. He was killed when pro-Russian separatists opened fire near Berezove village in Donetsk Oblast.

Oleksandr Cheskiy, 37, a soldier of the 28th mechanized brigade from Odesa Oblast. He was mobilized to the army in August and was killed near a city of Donetsk.

Nov. 12

Oleksandr Zahudaev, 52, a soldier of the 92nd mechanized brigade from Kharkiv Oblast. He volunteered to the army in August and was killed near Shchastia village in Luhansk Oblast during the attack.

Viktor Chernyukh, 24, a soldier of the 80 brigade from Lviv. He was killed near Shchastia village in Luhansk Oblast. Chernyukh leaves a wife and 1.5-year-old son in Derzhiv village in Lviv Oblast.

Oleh Lytvyn, a soldier of the 25th Kyivan Rus territorial defense battalion. Lytvyn, who used to work as a dog handler, volunteered to the war zone. He was killed during the shelling near Debaltseve in Donetsk Obalst. He leaves a wife in Kharkiv.

Nov. 14

Ruslan Bilenko, 30, a soldier of the 28th mechanized brigade from Kherson Oblast. He was serving in the east since August. Bilenko was killed during one of the attacks of pro-Russian separatists of Donetsk airport. He leaves his mother and two sisters in his native village in Kherson Oblast.

Serhiy Klymenko, 36, a soldier of the 24th mechanized brigade from Khmelnytska Oblast. He was mobilized to the army in September. Klymenko was killed near Krymske village in Luhansk Oblast when pro-Russian terrorists opened fire from a Grad multiple launch missile system.

Nov. 15

Denys Vereskun, 30, a soldier of the 20 territorial defense battalion from Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. He tripped on a land mine in Donetsk Oblast.

Nov. 16

Oleksandr Kaplinskiy, senior officer of a special training unit of Ukraine’s National Guard. He was killed by a shell splinter near Bakhmutka highway in Luhansk Oblast. Kaplinskiy leaves a wife and two children in Vinnytsia in central Ukraine.

Viktor Zapeka, 27, police officer from Chernihiv. Zapeka along with his two colleagues was killed at the checkpoint in Luhansk Oblast.

Andriy Ishchenko, 35, a police officer from Chernihiv. He volunteered to the army in early October, and told his relatives he will be on assignment in Kharkiv. He planned to come back home on Nov. 17, but was killed a day before at the checkpoint in Luhansk Oblast. Ishchenko leaves a wife and a two-month-old son in his native city.

Oleksandr Naidion, 30, a police officer from Chernihiv Oblast. He was killed when Russia-backed insurgents opened fire on his car at the checkpoint in Luhansk Oblast.

Viacheslav Kirichek, 43, a soldier of  the 128 mechanized brigadeHe volunteered to the army in June and was sent to the war zone in September. Kirichek used to work as an engineer at the local plant. He was killed in an ambush near Nikishyne village in Donetsk Oblast. Kirichek leaves a 17-year-old daughter in a city of Irpin in Kyiv Oblast.

Nov. 17

Mykola Yazhuk, 33, a captain of  the 169th Desna Training Centre from Vinnytsia Oblast. He was killed near Debaltseve in Donetsk Oblast.

Vitaliy Vasheniak, 34, a head of medical unit of 6th artillery unit from Vinnytsia Oblast. The ambulance where he were driving was tripped on a land mine near Debaltseve in Donetsk Oblast. Vasheniak leaves a wife, a daughter and a newborn son in Mytky village in Vinnytsia Oblast.

Oleksandr Rachynskiy, 35, captain of the Kyivska Rus territorial defense battalion. Rachynskiy had been fighting in the east since September. He was mortally wounded during the fight near Donetsk Oblast.  He leaves a wife two children in Ukrainka village in Kyiv Oblast.

Mykola Rosomakha, 30, a soldier from the 1st tank brigade from Chernihiv. He was wounded near Volnovakha in Donetsk Oblast and died later in the hospital. He leaves a wife, a brother and a sister in his native village of Khoroshe Ozero in Chernihiv Oblast.

Nov. 18

Valeriy Berdakov, 47, a member of the 93 mechanized brigade from Kryvyi Rih. He was mobilized to the army in mid-August. He was carrying water and supplies to his comrades to Donetsk airport when Russia-backed terrorist attacked his team using Grad missile launcher.

Nov. 19

Ruslan Semchyshche, 37, a soldier of the 128 mechanized brigade from Zakarpattia. He spent more than four months in the anti-terrorist zone. He was killed in Stanytsia village in Luhansk Oblast. Semchyshche leaves his wife and two sons in his native Orikhovytsia village.

Nov. 21

Vsevolod Volovyk, 47, a member of Praviy Sector volunteer battalion from Kyiv. He was an active EuroMaidan Revolution supporter, then volunteered to the war zone. Volovyk was held captive for around 45 days by Luhansk People’s Republic militants. He tripped on a land mine near Donetsk airport. Volovyk leaves his wife in Kyiv.

Volodymyr Baidyuk, 24, a member of Praviy Sector volunteer battalion. Baidyuk, a native of Ivano Frankivsk Oblast, tripped on a land mine near Donetsk airport. He leaves his mother and fiancé in his native village of Hlyboka in Ivano Frankivsk Oblast.

Ruslan Hretskiy, 38, a soldier from Kyiv Oblast. He was mobilized to the army in August and was killed near Druzhkivka village in Donetsk Oblast.

Nov. 23

Andriy Yurga, 50, a member of OUN volunteer battalion from Lviv. He used to be an entrepreneur, also was an active EuroMaidan Revolution supporter. Later he volunteered to the army. Yurga was killed during the shelling near Pisky village in Donetsk Oblast. He leaves a wife and 14-year-old son.

Nov. 24

Ihor Panio, a commander of the the 1st antitank platoon of the Volya territorial defense battalion. He was killed during the shelling near the city of Lysychansk in Luhansk Oblast.

Nov. 25

Pavlo Stets, captain from Mukacheve, Zakarpattia Oblast. He was killed in Nikishyne village in Donetsk Oblast.

Oleksandr Ihnatyshyn, junior sergeant from Mizhhiria, Zakarpattia Oblast. He was killed during the shelling near Nikishyne village in Donetsk Oblast.
