Kyiv Post’s Best of Kyiv 2010: Zara

For many Ukrainian fashion addicts, the shopping timeline falls between pre-Zara and post-Zara experience.

Before the Spanish clothing chain arrived in Kyiv in 2008, the fashion-conscious booked holidays abroad, as eager to stock up their wardrobes as they were to get a suntan. But Zara has changed all that.

Kyiv Post readers chose Zara as their primary fashion outlet for a few of obvious reasons. Present in 77 countries with more than 1,600 stores, the retailer makes the shopping experience feel familiar to what you experience at home.

Collections are inspired by the latest designer trends on the catwalk, but are far more affordable.

Zara’s story began in 1975 in Spain. Since then, the once-tiny lingerie company, based in the small northern Spanish town La Coruna, has grown to become one of the biggest – and most successful – players in its game.

The company is one of the fastest clothing makers, requiring only two weeks to develop a new collection – and get it into stores.

Designers are in constant contact with store managers, discussing which items are most in demand and which aren’t. Apart from women’s and men’s clothing, there is an outlet for children called Zara Kids.

So, Zara has something for everyone.

There are seven Zara outlets in Ukraine, with four of them in Kyiv and the rest in Lviv, Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk. Main shopping halls in Kyiv are at 23 Khreschatyk, open every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
