Kyiv Post's Best of Kyiv 2010: Hyatt Regency Kyiv

For the third consecutive year, Kyiv Post readers voted for the Hyatt as the city’s best hotel.

It seems that whatever its competitors – including Radisson BLU and InterContinental – are doing, they cannot persuade Kyiv Post readers that any of them has become good enough to end Hyatt’s leadership on the Kyiv hospitality scene.

What exactly makes Hyatt the best Kyiv hotel?

We should start with its prime location, overlooking Saint Sophia and Saint Michael cathedrals. After all, what can be better than waking up to the sight of sunrise reflected in their golden domes?

The spectacular view can be enjoyed not only by those staying at the hotel, but by those booking Hyatt’s incredibly cozy Biblioteque conference room that has a huge balcony overlooking St. Sophia square. Taking a break and getting some fresh air on the balcony would very likely help working out a winning strategy, or help solving even the most acute business disagreements.

Another Hyatt gem is the Spa Naturel salon on the ground floor, with its dim lights and creativity that includes a Japanese silk massage and special duplex spa suite with cascading bath.

Describing Hyatt’s spacious and bright rooms would be superfluous. It’s enough to mention that Hyatt was the hotel choice for Depeche Mode, a cult electronic band from Britain, who gave an unforgettable show in Kyiv last February and chose Hyatt as the place to relax after the gig.

About the only criticism Hyatt has been steadily getting is the way its modern architecture is “spoiling” the old part of town where it’s located. For those who share this opinion, we suggest visiting Vienna’s Stephansplatz. There, the modern building of Haas Haus trade and entertainment center is located opposite of the city’s landmark St. Stephen’s Cathedral. It is considered a showcase example of how old and new architecture can be mixed harmoniously. The glass and steel Hyatt building is arguably another example of this.
