Kyiv Post’s Best of Kyiv 2010: Good Wine

After only three years in business, Good Wine has sold 1.5 million bottles of wine and opened another Good Wine store on Heroiv Stalingrada Street in Kyiv’s Obolon district.

Six partner stores are up and running in Donetsk and Luhansk (called Vinomania), as well as in Chernihiv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi. Wine imports are up 30 percent, bringing in such “stars” of global wine production as Taittinger and William Grant.

This success has not gone unnoticed. For the third time, Good Wine is the best wine boutique in Kyiv, according to Kyiv Post readers and experts.

Besides providing the best alcohol, the store includes various appetizers to make the most of wine-tasting. Regulars note the atmosphere of elegance as one of its most distinctive features.

The first Good Wine shop in Ukraine was opened in 2007, delivering wines and hard liquors from all over the world. Today they offer more than 3,000 different wines from Europe, Latin and Northern America, Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East.

Among them, Italian wines have established steady popularity among the customers. Wines of Chile, Argentina, New Zealand and Portugal are also frequently requested. If you can’t find your favorite on the shelves of Good Wine, more than 8,000 wines can be delivered, at your personal request, from all over the world.

Once a month, connoisseurs gather in Good Wine on Mechnikova to taste rare wines and expand their knowledge. The participation costs on average Hr 100-350 and requires registration.

Buying six or more bottles will get you an 8 percent discount. Buying Hr 1,000 or more enables you to become a member of
“The Wine Connoisseurs Club,” eligible for greater discounts.

Good Wine also provides gift cards that can make a perfect present for your loved ones, if you find it hard to choose the drink for them.

“Our main secret is the quality and amount of service, and the price policy,” said Lyudmila Kovalchuk, Good Wine director. “Let’s say it more simply: We love our clients.”

According to her, the main customers of Good Wine are people with middle and upper incomes who are interested in quality drinks at reasonable prices.
