You're reading: Draft resolution to oust Kyiv mayor registered in parliament

Several parliament deputies have drafted and registered in parliament a resolution on Jan. 18, setting early parliamentary election for May 30, 2010. Its explanatory note says that the resolution is being proposed for parliament considerations because of "multiple facts of violation of the constitution and law" by Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky and other top officials in the city.

"The above mentioned facts were established in the process of a parliamentary investigation conducted by the investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada," the explanaroty note said.

The resolution was drafted by deputies Mykola Tomenko, Andriy Kozhemyakin and Kyryl Kulikov. Tomenko said it reacted to "the emergency situation" in the city of Kyiv , where "the municipal authorities are unable to provide elementary safety of the citizens of Ukraine and normal life of the capital."

The draft resolution is yet to be included in the Rada’s agenda.
