March 17, 2009, 6:02 p.m. | Kyiv — by Interfax-Ukraine
The Ukrainian Interior Ministry has accused the pastor of the Embassy of God, Sunday Adelaja, of defrauding citizens of money, the ministry's Department for Media Liaison and International Activity told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday. Adelaja was accused as part of the investigation into a criminal case on King's Capital opened in January 2009, the ministry said.

"The investigator has brought charges against Nigerian citizen Sunday Adelaja, who permanently resides in Ukraine and is a senior pastor at the Embassy of God church. The charges were brought under Part 4, Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (the embezzlement of funds in very large amounts via fraud)," the ministry said.

On March 14, Adelaja was again banned from leaving his place of residence. This measure had already been applied to the pastor.

As reported, on November 24, 2008, Kyiv police officers arrested the leader of Kyiv-based financial group King's Capital, Oleksandr Bandurchenko, on suspicion of large-scale fraud. Vice Speaker Mykola Tomenko earlier asked Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko to investigate the activities of King's Capital due to reports about the group's doubtful activities, and in connection with this, the company's refusal to pay funds to its depositors.

Kyiv's Shevchenkivsky district court arrested Bandurchenko on November 27, 2008.

Lutsenko reported the involvement of Adelaja in organizing the activities of the King's Capital financial group on November 25, 2008.

Part 4, Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine envisages five to 12 years of imprisonment, along with confiscation of property. var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? Anywhere you have a Nigerian involved it is gauranteed to involve fraud and theft!!!!

You are correct, all Nigerian thiefs are in London, why the uk allowed hundreds of thousands of these people in i will never know, Ukraine don't allow these people in to your country they will destroy it like they have destroyed the uk. White people in the Uk are the ones who don't have any rights!!!!!!!!!

Please, don't be prejudice in your approach because someone is a Nigerian, so he is a fraud. You have lots and lots of opportunities that will slip you bye if you carry such mentality through life

Moreover, you don't need to be myopic in your approach. You have Europeans in Africa making good money in legitimate ways and there also you have those involve in big fraud and scams, and aid corruption, involve in money laundry, those that elude with contract money without the project been executed and etc.

The press does not see this at all because the media is controlled by them. In fact, you need to understand how Ukraine is been portrayed by "the West".

My advise to you that you apply discretion and learn to deal with people as individuals. No man ever made a choice for the condition he/she is born into but you must understand destiny.

Am a Nigerian and I am proud of my African origin. To me, integrity is of utmost importance; it can't be bought with money. Thank you and God bless you.

I am really shocked at the prejudice displayed here by Ukranians. Ukranians are considered inferior in other parts of the west but does that mean they are inferior? We must never be tempted to judge people or malign other countries on the basis of the acussation of one person. Justice must be allowed to prevail. Even though the UK too has its fair share of idiots and illiterates who talk like, this we don't have a clear division of whites versus black. Everyone is protected by the law aincluding economic migrants from Ukraine. I am white but very disgusted by stupid comments coming from Ukraine. Good bye

In the current global liquidity crisis, the list is long of even legitimate investment agencies that are unable to find buyers to help them turn their investments into cash. How many banks in Ukraine have either frozen accounts, or radically limited withdrawals by their depositors? Should their president's and officer's be serving 5-12 years? Not if assets backing customer deposits are documented. Only an honest financial review can determine if there's intentional fraud here, or just one more unfortunate case of illiquid assets and market loss.

Ha-ha-ha!!!

Now he'll be preaching to the con men! Throw the mayor in the same cell, too, as his "brother in Christ".

It's about time, too. It's amazing how long that African monkey fraud has survived and prospered in this country.

Well Pavlo do you really have to show how unlearned, racial and illitrate you are??? When will you realise that people cannot be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character??? For you its not important if he is guilty or not... you just can't stand the fact that an african can prosper in Ukraine...

Race or no race, he's a quack and that's what he's gonna do time for. His friend Chernovetsky belongs in jailhouse too. Black or white, a felon's got to be put behind bars. That's not racism. That's justice.

If you put it in terms of justice then you've made some sence but like you said and I quote... that african monkey... it is so racial and that is the predudice going on in our society... I feel black people are humans so also are whites... reds and other races and the law should apply to each and everyone but as depicted in her statue... she is blind to colour race and gender...

It is proper that people with limited knowledge about the facts of the case should desist from making derogatory, inflammatory, nonsensical, racial and ill concieved comments. Muchas I sympathize with the victims of this failed investment, I am of the opinion that preachers will take a cue from these developments. The prosperity gospel is taking us nowhere!! The gospel of Jesus Christ must be preached in its entirity, the gospel of repentance and genuine worship in truth and in spirit. The Lord will definitely vindicate those who stand for His holy cause. The global financial crisis has indeed crippled so many legitimate investments, ask the likes of Lehman Brothers then you will be better informed. It is my sincere hope that in pursuing this case there will be no hidden motives that will affect the dispensation of justice after all is said and done. No matter how fast and far lies travels truth will always catch up with it.

There seems to be a is bitter hatred towards foreigners in Ukraine especially those they consider themselves superior to. This is actually a very negative trend.

Pointing accusing fingers to Pastor Adelaja is not new. It makes you understand the nature of the country.

Although not appreciated, but the impact and contributions of foreigners make in Ukraine cannot be underestimated.

I pray God helps Ukraine through this financial mess. I believe, all it takes to move this country forward is visionary leadership; and with wisdom and sincerity, there will be a face lift for the country. Mind you, a people deserve the leaders they produce because leadership emanates from citizenship.

As an international student in Ukraine, I pray for the blessing of God upon the Land and that the mentality of an average Ukrainian can be more positive to changes & progress. And may young people come to knowledge of Christ Jesus so that the emptiness in their hearts can give way for the peace of God to reign

Amen, bro.

I am also a student-inozemets here in Ukraine, I am not white, I am a christian. I am not surprised about this, lately government is using KGB methods against us dark skinned people. Within last 2 weeks our dormitory was raided 3 times by police, first in the evening, 2nd at 1 am, and last at 6 am in the morning. I know the common Ukrainian on the street is clever, educated and have a beautiful heart, just they have too many corrupted politicians.

Thank you dear God, that I have a dark skin, so I could learn what it means to be judged because of my color, to be seen as a piece of garbage, to spend 13 hours 40 minutes in an Ukrainian police station freezing in cold waiting to give our testimony, while those who assaulted me were kept in warm jails, brought food, warm drinks, thank you for teaching that I cannot trust to any authority to defend my rights. Now I know you are my only true defender. Thank you Jesus Christ, you came to this world as a dark-skinned as well. Amen

This "pastor" is a shame for the foreigners community. We should have taken care of him earlier, ourselves.

As to the racial whining: we should all act as representatives of our own community. Be it black, jewish, gipsy etc etc, anyone misbehaving should be aware that a bad action will have an effect on the community as a whole. Take this as a disfunctioning foreigners community. I should have done something about it myself. No excuse.

The last thing this country needs is a bunch of foreign HALLELUIAS.

He should not be judge before evidence has been put in front of the court, and not because he is black. It is true that Pastors seems to prosper more than their flocks, maybe be because they provide a service to heal the minds and heart of people and people value them and want to compensate him for doing good. Therefore it is a remuneration for somebody who has a market for his product and the larger the market the larger the remuneration. A similar view can be taken of highly skilled professionals like fund managers, engineers, architects, lawyers and surgeons who a excellent at what they do and have a large client base. The fact thate the pastor was arrested in the time of financial crisis make it a possibility that he has aroused jealousy and envy on the part of many people as he continues to prosper while other people have become poorer and less fortunate.

A true follower of Christ will always be misunderstood. Why? Well because Jesus himself was hated by the very people he came to save. therefore a servant is not greater than his master. This is not new.. we see the same pattern in the bible over and over. Righteous men, being misunderstood and persecuted, Noah, Daniel, Jesus..etc the list goes on.

Sunday Adelaja belongs to that illustrous group of people.

I challenge everyone to wake up and realize that one day we will all (what/whoever we are, white, green, red, black, etc..)stand before God and give an account of what we were up to on the earth.

I use this oppportunity to call men to JESUS CHRIST. Deep in your heart, you KNOW that you are going to have to face him one day. I assure you. Just you wait.

Now is a time of grace. JESUS loves you so much and wants you to come to him!

PLEASE I BEG you to do so before it is too late !

The Minister of Justice does not support Lutsenko’s accusations against Adeladja

(Part 3 of 3).

As it is known, there is still no accusatory sentence against Pastor Sunday Adelaja, but Lutsenko’s loud speeches lead people astray. It is not understandable why the Ukrainian Minister of MIA makes public addresses about Sunday Adelaja before the eyes of the whole country, Ukraine and thereby breaks the Ukrainian Law.

To date the principle of presumption of innocence is known to every student, but as we can see, the Head Police officer does not know that. Provoke indignation that the Ukrainian Minister of MIA who has to watch over the Law breaks it himself. Is it really so, that after all, Lutsenko’s speeches are outright racist manifestations and political orders about Pastor of the Embassy of God church, Sunday Adelaja?

The Minister of Justice does not support Lutsenko’s accusations against Adeladja

(Part 2 of 3).

On the question whether you think pastor Sunday Adelaja is an offender or not, the Ukrainian Minister of justice, Mykola Onischyk answered the following: "For Ukraine as a country to achieve democracy, it is necessary to keep the principle presuming innocence. It means that a person can not be considered guilty or be accused of committing a crime until the verdict of "the accused" is passed. That is the reason why I have to refrain from making comments on this. Also I would like to take notice that any governmental body must adhere to this constitutional imperative. It is possible that the investigation of this criminal case has already possessed certain materials indicative of signs presence of crime, but this information usually is a secret investigation and can not be spread. We have to proceed from that until accusatory sentence is passed and a person considered innocent".

The Ukrainian Minister of justice, Mykola Onischyk took part in a press conference on Internet Portal "Obozrevatel" on April 7. The main Ukrainian lawyer expressed his position about the accusations against Pastor Sunday Adelaja and legality of the actions by the country’s Head Police officer.

Among the questions addressed to the Ukrainian Minister of justice was one concerning the accusation brought publicly by the Ukrainian Minister of MIA, Yuriy Lutsenko against the Senior Pastor of the Embassy of God church, Sunday Adelaja.

Deputy of the Head of Administration of the President of Ukraine Igor Popov is disturbed…

(Part 3 of 3).

"Unfortunately, in most cases such statements are not resulted in any other steps to punish the guilty", - deputy of the Head of Administration of the President of Ukraine, Igor Popov, added.

Indeed, the like official violations have become a practice of some Ukrainian politicians. However, these violations of law enforcement bodies can be equated with a crime, because mentioned agencies are to protect the law and the nation.

These events show that Ukrainian society cannot come back to the past. There is no place in politics for officials who ignore the principles of democracy.

We would like to believe that the President of Ukraine, Victor Yushchenko, as a guarantor of the Constitution will react to the actions of the minister Yuriy Lutsenko against pastor Sunday Adelaja in order to avoid the like violations against citizens of Ukraine and guests of our country.

(Part 2 of 3).

"I am neither a judge nor a politician. That is why I do not accuse people without having sufficient information and court’s decision. Unfortunately, representatives of some law enforcement bodies use their status for political struggle. Instead of pursuing criminals they speak in mass media.”

Let us mention that accusing an honest and world-respected pastor with fraud, the minister Yuriy Lutsenko broke the main Law of Ukraine, which is the Constitution of Ukraine. Particularly, article 62 of the Constitution prohibiting accusing a man without proving his guilt in court was broken.

What will Lutsenko choose: politics or law?

4th, May a deputy of the Head of Administration of the President of Ukraine, Igor Popov, held a chat-conference on Internet resource “Glavred”.

He answered to numerous issues of the day related to today’s political processes in Ukraine. One of the questions was about the senior pastor of the Christian church “Embassy of God”, Sunday Adelaja, and about public charges of the Minister of Interior Affairs Yuriy Lutsenko against Sunday Adelaja. Sviatoslav Piskun: Lutsenko has broken the Constitution in case of pastor Sunday Adelaja

(Part 4 of 4).

The General persecutor of Ukraine considers all actions of Lutsenko to be a violation of the Main Law – The Constitution, but the current General persecutor O. Medved’ko does not react to illegal accusations against pastor Sunday accordingly to his responsibilities, and that shows that some internal institutions and certain politicians are joined against the pastor and are not interested in finding the truth in this case.

However it is the Minister of Internal Affairs Juriy Lutsenko who should answer for his consciously planed illegal actions against pastor Sunday Adelaja. Satisfaction has not been abolished in Justice yet.

Sviatoslav Piskun: Lutsenko has broken the Constitution in case of pastor Sunday Adelaja

(Part 3 of 4).

"After all where was this practice taken from? It seems to me that this practice came from 2004, when everyone came out to Maidan and said: "Prison to bandits!” So who are those bandits? They are whoever we point at…” – Mr. Piskun added.

First of all before you name someone a villain, you should prove their guilt. Having received the position of the Minister of Internal Affairs and after all revolution slogans Juriy Lutsenko opened numerous criminal cases, though many of them were not taken to the court, because they were not confirmed in pre-judicial investigation.

There was no court’s sentence for pastor Sunday, but the populist declarations of Mr. Lutsenko are deceiving Ukraine. The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine makes Ukrainian nation lose faith in the power of law and equality of everyone, including officials before the Law.

It is a straight violation of the Constitution, in which it is written that until guilt is proved in the court (even not during the investigation, but in the court) no one can be recognized as guilty”.

April, 29, the press-conference on the topic: "Law is one for everyone!” was held by the General prosecutor, national deputy of Ukraine Sviatoslav Piskun.

The previous General public prosecutor of Ukraine expressed his position as to the absurd accusations addressed to pastor Sunday Adelaja by the main policeman of country.

It is known that the minister of internal affairs of Ukraine – Juriy Lutsenko publicly imputed a crime to the senior pastor of the God’s Embassy Church, which was unproved, baseless and illegal as the Constitution of Ukraine provides presumption of innocence before a court’s sentence.

(Part 4 of 4)

History of the Ukrainian justice shows that criminal cases widely spread by politicians through Mass Media at the beginning and often during the prejudicial inquiry were closed even without court. So it is possible to forecast that this criminal case incriminated by mister J.Luzhenko against pastor Sunday Adelaja will not be proved legally in court.

As experience shows (the case of Boris Kolesnikov) in most cases such accusations are not proved. In 2004 the Ministry of Internal Affairs with J.Luzhenko incriminated to Boris Kolesnikov acquisition with shares extortion of the business center "White Swan" (Beluy Lebed). The politician spent several months in pre-trial prison. As a result lawyers strived for a discharge of Boris Kolesnikov closing of the criminal case in the absence of crime in the act.

Recently political scientist Olexandr Doniy, the deputy of the Parliament’s group "Our Ukraine is the National self-defense" in hard talk said: "Logically it is not worthwhile for the pastor of the most influential church (per se timeless project) to risk his authority getting involved in a financial pyramid (its quick and huge profits end up by escape of the founders or general managers)".

There are groundless public declarations made by the Minister of Internal Affairs, J. Luzhenko, which have occurred in Mass Media for the last several months. J.Luzhenko dared to slander the Senior Pastor of the Embassy of God church accusing him in criminal involvement and activity of the financial company King’s Capital, accusing him in the fraud specified in paragraph 3, article 37 and paragraph 4, article 190 of the Constitution of Ukraine.
