Kyiv City State Administration has already returned about 1,000 hectares of green zone land to city ownership and is to return another 2,000 hectares by 2012, first Deputy Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Mazurchak has said.

"We must do everything to return these 2,000 hectares to the city in 2012, he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday.

He added that these territories had to be returned to the city’s ownership by the time the city’s general plan is approved.

Deputies of the Kyiv City Council have to cancel the decision to allocate given territories by themselves, the deputy head said.

In particular, the territory of Zhukov’s island would be fully protected according to the new general plan, Mazurchak reported.

"I can guarantee that this territory [Zhukov’s island] would be a reserve in the general plan," he said.

On Oct. 27, Kyiv City Council repeatedly turned down a protest of the Prosecutor General’s Office against a decision of the Kyiv City Council to allocate 15.7 hectares of Zhukov island for to the Sovski stavy private building society for private development.
