You're reading: Kyiv district court bans rallies in capital

Kyiv District Administrative Court has banned the Crimean Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Public Assembly of Small and Medium Businesses of Ukraine and Media-Prostir from carrying out rallies in Kyiv from Nov. 22 to Nov. 26, the press service of Kyiv City State Administration has reported.

Due to visits of foreign missions on Nov. 21-24, as well as appeals from the main department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine in Kyiv and the state security department, the city authorities appealed to Kyiv District Administrative Court to ban mass protests during the period.

The press service noted that a protest against the adoption of the Tax Code, in which 5,000 people took part, was held in Kyiv on Monday.

Kyiv City State Administration called on the participants to observe the law and not to disturb the peace.

The law enforcement authorities confirmed to Interfax-Ukraine the Kyiv court had imposed a ban on holding rallies in Kyiv downtown. It is said that the court ruling will be passed to the organizers of protests against the Tax Code.

The law enforcement authorities expressed hope that entrepreneurs would observe the court ruling so as not to involve the executive service and law enforcement employees.
