Kyiv funicular railway will be closed for repairs for a month starting on September 1, the Kyivpastrans municipal enterprise reported on Friday.
"To ensure the continued safe operation of the funicular railway from September 1 until October 1, 2012, Kyiv funicular will be closed for annual maintenance with the repair of separate components," the enterprise said in a statement.
The funicular railway in Kyiv was launched in 1905. Over this time, it was modernized three times in 1928, 1958 and 1984. The funicular closes for repairs every fall.
