You're reading: Mayor’s son to give up his seat in city council

The son of Kyiv Mayor, 31-year-old Stepan Chernovetsky, has decided to give up his city council seat. The vote to accept his resignation will take place on Dec. 24, according to liga.net

Stepan Chernovetsky isa member of Bloc of Chernovestky in the council, which has a total of 43 seats in the 120-seat council.

Previously only those council deputies, who had jobs in the central government, had quit their seats. The list includes Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, First Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Turchynov, Vice Speaker Mykola Tomenko, and parliament deputy Mykola Katerynchuk. Actor Anatoliy Khostykoyev also quit his seat in 2008.

The next person in the party list is appointed a city council deputy when their colleagues give up the seat.
