A criminal case has been opened against former deputy governor of Kyiv region Rostyslav Yerema. He is accused of abuse of power and forgery of documents during the implementation of a charitable project entitled "Warm a Child with Love," reads a posting on Focus.ua referring to a court ruling.
According to the court ruling, the ex-official signed a document in which contact details of Kyiv Regional State Administration for transfer of charity funds were replaced by that of the Velyka Rodyna (Big Family) non-governmental foundation.
“Thus, image of the administration was spoiled due to the negligence of obligations to provide four families with charitable aid,” reads the document.
The ruling also reads that employees of the administration several times proposed families having many children to receive sums that were much smaller than the sums they were supposed to receive.
Yerema has signed a recognisance not to leave the country, according to the posting.
The charitable project “Warm a Child with Love” was set up in 2007 by initiative of third Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko. The organizers of the project promised that Ukrainian businessmen would improve housing conditions for families that have many children. The president’s daughter, Vitalina Yuschenko, headed the national council on the project.
Vira Ulyanchenko, who headed Kyiv Regional State Administration in 2006-2009, chairs the Velyka Rodyna foundation.
