Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have discussed the development of local government and relations between Kyiv and its twin cities in Germany, the mayor's press service has reported.

“We talked with Mrs. Merkel in Kyiv about local government, about contacts with Germany, current problems, the areas in which Germany may help, and about the development of relations between twin cities. Mrs. Chancellor said that she would ask the German government and burgomasters to provide greater support to Ukraine so that we were able to feel support in the implementation of reforms, which the Ukrainians are waiting for,” Klitschko said after the meeting.

He said that Merkel’s visit to the Ukrainian capital was a good signal, the positioning of Germany’s attitude to Ukraine and support for the country.

Klitschko noted that Merkel had urged him to actively use German contacts for Kyiv’s development and for reform.

“Mrs. Chancellor addressed me: Vitali, you have good contacts in Germany, everyone knows you, so please use them. And I will certainly do it,” Klitschko said.

He said that the stabilization of the situation in Ukraine and the cessation of hostilities in the eastern regions had also been discussed.
