The man that shot dead three security guards at the Karavan shopping mall in Kyiv earlier participated in political rallies, reads a posting on the Web site of the Rossiyskaya Gazeta (Russian Newspaper) referring to a source in Ukrainian special services.

"A man resembling the suspect has been identified on a video from political rallies recorded by an exterior video surveillance system," the source told the newspaper.

According to the source, the shooting at the shopping mall was not a domestic crime or a nervous breakdown of a psychopath.

"The killer's behavior, his accurate shots, the fact that he did not start shooting in the sales area, and even the way he escaped by foot thought parks shows that we are dealing with a trained person, a killer. The bullet cases from his Makarov pistol that were found on the scene don't match any of bullet cases in the Ukrainian police register. And his fingerprints are also not on the criminal register," the source said.

In addition, the hoax bomb threat at Kyiv railway station could be directly connected with this crime.

"We have every reason to assume that the bomb warning call was made by the killer so that a part of police forces could be sent there," the source said.

According to the newspaper, the connection with the phone of the hoax caller was lost on the border of Kyiv and Bryansk regions.

"The killer should be searched for in another time zone. There are nine chances out of ten that he is in Russia," the source said, and added that the Ukrainian police are unofficially keeping in touch with Russian colleagues on the case.

"We are dealing with a desperate man, most likely, he is a former serviceman. We have to find out what is his occupation and what he was doing at the rallies. These are the most important questions for us today," the source said.

As reported, the robber shot dead three employees of a private security firm and seriously wounded another one in the Karavan shopping mall in Kyiv on September 26. One of the security guards saw a visitor stealing a USB flash drive from a glass case. The guard asked the man to go to the back room, where other guards were waiting. In the room the man pulled out a gun and started shooting, killing three security guards on the spot and seriously wounding a fourth one. The attacker then fled the scene.

The Obolon District Police Office has opened a criminal case on the incident.

Executive Director of Karavan Serhiy Kyslenko promised Hr 100,000 for assistance in finding the criminal.

There is a full video recording of the incident on the Internet.
