The opposition has proposed the elections of Kyiv mayor and deputies of Kyiv City Council be held on July 16, 2013.

The draft resolution on the next elections of Kyiv mayor and deputies of Kyiv City Council (on July 16, 2013, No. 2961) and the draft resolution on the early elections of Kyiv mayor and deputies of Kyiv City Council (July 16, 2013, No. 2962) were registered in the Verkhovna Rada on May 8.

The authors of the draft resolutions are the members of the Batkivschyna parliamentary faction, MPs Oleksandr Chernovolenko and Yuriy Odarchenko.

As reported, the opposition is striving for holding the elections of Kyiv mayor and deputies of Kyiv City Council but cannot pass this decision through the parliament due to a lack of support from the majority factions. The Regions Party stated its readiness to vote only after the Constitutional Court makes its decision in connection with the juridical collision of dates of the regular and extraordinary elections of Kyiv mayor and Kyiv City Council deputies.

On April 2 this year, the parliament failed to pass a resolution to schedule local elections in Kyiv for June 2 as it was not supported by the Regions Party faction, which said it’s not worth considering the issue until the Constitutional Court makes a ruling on the matter.
