About 2,000 opposition supporters and about 2,500 supporters of the Regions Party gathered for a rally outside the building of the Ukrainian parliament on Tuesday, May 11, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's media liaisons department has told Interfax-Ukraine.

The department said that given the fact that the application for holding the rally included a figure of 100,000 protesters, about 4,000 police officers had initially been assigned to maintain public order.

However, due to the fact that the rally was not large, only 1,700 police officers are currently maintaining public order.

The Interior Ministry denied reports that Berkut special units from regional police departments had been sent to Kyiv for the rally.
