The participants in a rally in support of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in Kyiv's Mariyinsky Park have taken down their tent city to see in the New Year holidays together with their families and urged protesters on Independence Square to do the same.

“Now all of us who’re still here should return home and see in the New Year and Christmas with our families, because family is the most important thing on this earth. Let the politicians sit down at the negotiating table and reach a compromise, agree on peace and concord in society,” the press service of the Party of Regions quoted the commandant of the tent city in support of the president, Oleksandr Zinchenko, as saying on Sunday.

He also added: “We invite the protesters on Independence Square to hold some small Olympic Games. Let’s pacify conflicts between us. We are all Ukrainians, and we are all united. Let’s hold a competition, for example, a football match between Maidan of unity and Euromaidan. Let the squad of every football team include half of the players from Mariyinsky Park and half from Independence Square. We should symbolically show through this that we are united, that there is no enmity and strife between us.”

The pro-government protesters also adopted a resolution of an all-Ukrainian rally “Let’s Unite Ukraine” in support of the policy of President Viktor Yanukovych.

The resolution unanimously expresses support for the political course of President Viktor Yanukovych, “his resolute and consistent decisions,” aimed at protecting national interests, territorial integrity, unity and social harmony.
