Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense MP and former Kyiv Mayor Oleksandr Omelchenko hit a 48-year-old man while driving his Mitsubishi Pajero car. The man died at the site of the road accident.

The chief of the State Automobile Inspectorate’s office in Kyiv, Anatoliy Sirenko, told Interfax-Ukraine that the MP was traveling from Koncha-Zaspa to Kyiv late on Wednesday.

Omelchenko said in his explanatory note that he was driving his car in the second traffic lane at a speed of around 70 kilometers per hour (the speed limit is 80 kilometers per hour on this section of road).

He also said that a man suddenly appeared before his car in the village of Chapaivka. Omelchenko said that the pedestrian was crossing the road at a prohibited place, around 40 meters from the pedestrian crossing. One of the witnesses provided the same evidence. Omelchenko said he had used emergency braking in order to avoid the collision.

The MP was at the site of the accident until all of the documents on the accident were completed, and also passed a breathalyzer test.
