Podilsky bridge in Kyiv will be put into operation in 2014, the press service of Kyiv City State Administration has reported.

According to the press service, the problem of the transport communication between the left and right banks of River Dnipro is very important, and one of the ways to resolve this problem is to open the Podilsky bridge to road and subway traffic in two years.

In October 2010 the first stage of the building of the bridge was put into operation, Naberezhno-Rybalska road and four underground passages, and the bridge via the harbor and overpass to Naberezhno-Khreschatytska Street started to work.

The second stage of the building, from Naberezhno-Khreschatytska Street to Perova Boulevard, is expected to be put into operation in 2013, while the third stage building (from Mezhyhirska Street to Perova Boulevard) will open in 2014.

According to the directorate of buildingroad and transport facilities of Kyiv municipal enterprise, which ordered the work, the problem of transport communications between the banks of the River Dnipro has a long history. As of January 1, 2010 the number of the cars in Kyiv totaled about 1 million, and the number of the cars that daily cross the city is 250,000.

The daily intensity of the traffic via the bridges totals 300,000 cars per day. At the same time in the rush hours actual intensity of the traffic movement exceeds the admission capacity of the bridges across the River Dnipro by 2.8 times, while in the northern part (Moskovsky bridge and Metro bridge) – by 3.2 times. It is expected that in 2020 the daily intensity of the traffic via the bridges will total 368,900 units per day.
