Police have opened a criminal case over the desecration of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Kyiv in connection with video footage posted on the Internet, where three unidentified men can be seen frying eggs over an eternal flame near the monument.

The media liaisons department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry’s main office in Kyiv told Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday that the investigative office of the Pechersk district department of police had opened a criminal case over the desecration of the tomb under Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Measures are currently being taken to find those who are to blame for this performance. The police could not say whether the video footage was true.

The online version of the Television News Service (TSN) on Ukraine’s 1+1 channel reported earlier that three young people, as a sign of protest against the "despotism of the authorities and officials," were frying eggs over the eternal flame in Kyiv’s Park of Glory on June 20. Thus, the activists expressed their support for Bratstvo Party activist Anna Sinkova, who made a similar performance last December and is currently in jail.
