You're reading: Popov believes July elections of Kyiv mayor would be unfavorable for him

Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov believes that if the elections of Kyiv mayor are held on July 15, 2012, he will be put at a disadvantage as a candidate for this post.

"When it comes to July 15, this date will be very unfavorable for me as a candidate, because I will not be able to engage in politics or the election campaign at a time when we are holding or preparing to hold such a serious event as Euro 2012," he said.

However, Popov said that it was up to the Verkhovna Rada to decide on the date of the next elections of Kyiv mayor.

"The Verkhovna Rada will determine [the date], and so be it," he said.
