The Southwestern Railroad has requested that the Kyiv municipal council rename Petrozavodska Street, which is located in the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv, as Heorhi Kirpa Street.
The Southwestern Railroad's head Oleksii Kryvopyshyn made the request at a session of the municipal council.
Kryvopyshyn noted that Dec. 27 will be the fifth anniversary of the death of transport and communications minister Heorhii Kirpa.
According to Kryvopyshyn, many projects involving development of railways were implemented in Kyiv, thanks to Kirpa.
In particular, according to him, these projects include the reconstruction of the central train station, the construction of the Southern train station, the introduction of high-speed electric trains, and the construction of housing for railway workers.
Kryvopyshyn stressed that he was making the request to rename the street after Kirpa on behalf of all railway workers.
After hearing his request, the Kyiv municipal council decided to include the relevant draft decision on the agenda of its session on Thursday.
As earlier reported, Kirpa was Ukraine's transport and communications minister from 2002 to 2004.
According to official information, Kirpa committed suicide in December 2004.
