Opposition demands from Ukrainian Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko to unblock central streets in Kyiv removing too many representatives of interior troops and Berkut special forces unit, MP of UDAR Iryna Heraschenko has said.

The press service of the UDAR Party reported on Friday, January 3, that she
said at a briefing in the headquarters of national resistance that women from
the UDAR faction two weeks ago at a personal meeting with the minister said that
it is inadmissible to block Kyiv’s streets using special forces units, as no one
imposed a state of emergency in the country.

Heraschenko said that UDAR demands from law-enforcement agencies to protect
order, and not to create problems for Kyiv residents and guests.

“Today the police are making their units investigation and repression
agencies, which terrorize the civilians and not protect them,” she said.

“Each day we receive dozens of complaints from participants of peaceful
protests, who are called to come to the police departments to present
explanations. The road police are involved in the war against citizens. Road
police officers started coming to apartments of protesters and threaten them,”
she said.

Heraschenko said that the road police officers fulfill functions that are
unusual for them not only in Kyiv, but in the regions.

“The police are doing only one thing – repressions against opposition and the
civilians participating in protests. Information is collected for each
protester. No one investigates into crimes and real criminals,” she said.

She said that opposition is preparing several claims and addresses to courts
against illegal actions of law-enforcement agencies.

Heraschenko asked citizens on whom law-enforcement agencies and the road
police press due to their participation in protests to present all information
about the facts to lawmakers.

“We’ll protect citizens from the lawlessness of law-enforcement officers. We
ask you to present facts of infringements,” she said.
