You're reading: Volia opens free internet access in Kyiv center (UPDATES)

Ukraine's biggest internet and cable service provider Volia has said that it will open WiFi access points in Kyiv and bump up all of its customers' internet services to maximum speed so that their WiFi connections may be used by people in the city through Dec. 2, the company said in a press release. It also said that it would set up several free WiFi spots in the city center.

“We’re witnessing the force actions that are threatening human lives and health,” Volia said in a statement. “That’s why we’re opening the possibility for emergency calls and to contact relatives online… by opening for two days, Dec. 1-2, the maximum internet speed to your address.”

“We’re urging you to remove all WiFi passwords to give access to networks to all those who need it,” the company added.

The company is asking its subscribers to send their addresses, including street and building number, to the company at [email protected]. With the information, the Internet Association of Ukraine will mark this spot on a free access map.

According to one Volia manager, it was a company director who gave an order to set up free WiFi points in the city urge clients to unlock their connections in order to be used by all.

Many free WiFi points are availabe on Shevchenko Blvd. and Khreschatyk St. Technical issues are being worked out with connections near St. Michael’s Square, but it is expected to also have WiFi access.

Tereschenkivska St. 19: evromaidan1 and evromaidan2;

St. Michael’s Square 24A: evromaidan 3 and evromaidan4;

Two points in the hotel Cossack;

Restaurant Katyusha at Volodymyrska St. 5153;

And Khreschatyk metro station MTS mobile library.
