Kyiv will be celebrating its 1,530th birthday this weekend with an impressive array of festivals, contests and concerts all around the city.

The celebrations will start early on May 26 with a bicycle parade that will take place in Kyiv from 8 a.m. till 11 a.m. Hot air balloons will compete for the top trophy in their sport between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Druzhby Narodiv Park.
The outdoor Pyrohovo museum, just outside Kyiv, will host a kite festival from 11 a.m. till 5 p.m.
A gala concert featuring Ukrainian stars of classical music will start at 8 p.m. on Sofiyivska Square, and will end with a 3D show “The New Face of the Ancient Capital” at 9:30 p.m. Sunday’s celebrations will begin at 8 a.m. with the traditional charitable “Race Under the Chestnuts” on Mykhailivska Square. A roller skating championship will be held in Obolon from 9 a.m.
Spivoche Pole Park, located on the hills of Dnipro River close to Pecherska Lavra, will be hosting folk and art festivals and a fair, starting at 3 p.m. The celebrations will end with a fireworks display on Obolonska Naberezhna at 9:30 p.m.
